I spent some time in downtown around the site location examining, talking with and getting to know
the local and visiting community. I found that most of the people in the area worked at the shops
and would frequent places in the area on their lunch break.

About Downtown LA:
Heath Raw is located downtown near the Arts District.
Populated by a hip, tasteful, community that embraces new and fresh,
touched with a hand made DIY feeling. Heath Raw is in the center of
a new and exciting neighborhood for creatives and young professionals.
Insight: I went to visit a ceramics studio and connected
with a local ceramic artist who helped me understand and craft the
narrative of the space. I spent the day with him observing and asking
questions as he created these hand made pieces. It was inspiring and
insightful to watch him in his space. I walked away with a deeper
understanding of the craft of ceramics, which helped inform my
program layout.
The installation is split by the glass panels and
continues from the inside of the space to the outside.
Spatial Program
A. Performance Space
Local singer/song writers can share their music with the guests of Heath Raw
B. Geology
Layers of sedimentary rock are cut into thin slices and suspended from the ceiling to represent the long life of clay
C. Product
Seasonal products will be displayed for guests to purchase. Each new piece is either shipped or packaged in store
D. Seating Area
Guests can sit and enjoy their Heath Raw seasonal meals
E. Social Space
Guests can join friends at the community standing space
F. Pairing Area
Guests get to choose how they would like to have their Heath Raw meal served to them.
G. Kitchen
The kitchen is where all the flavors are mixed for guests to enjoy. This space also holds Heath Raw’s product
